WordPress Installation: From Buying Hosting To Your Website Can Be Accessed

Installing WordPress is actually not difficult.

In the video that I recorded for this guide, the process only takes less than 5 minutes.

But why are so many people confused?

Hmmm ... maybe because WordPress itself does not provide an official guide in Indonesian. That's why people who can't speak English are a bit confused.

For this reason in this guide I provide steps from zero that you can follow right now to create a website with WordPress.

Rent hosting and domains

Before you can install WordPress, you must have its place first: hosting and domain.

The simple definition is like this:

Hosting or web hosting is where your website is placed. All files related to the website are put on hosting.

While the domain is the address.

To be able to access your website, people will type your domain name in their browser. For example my domain name blog is guidim.com.

Hosting recommendations

There are many hosting and domain service providers.

So that you are not confused, here are some recommendations for Indonesian hosting services that I feel are suitable for beginners:

• Dewaweb

All three provide a free domain if we rent hosting.

If you want to create an English-language website to target overseas visitors, then the hosting must be based in America.

This overseas hosting service is suitable for beginners:

• BlueHost
• HostGator
• SiteGround

Before we continue, be careful ... on the internet there are many people whose origins are unclear offering cheap hosting services.

You should not buy from people who are not clear.

This hosting has an effect on the quality and speed of your website access. If you buy hosting that is not clear, your website will be a lot of interference.

Tips for determining a domain name

I personally have a bad habit in choosing a domain: like to think too long ...

Here are some tips for determining a domain name:

1. Related or can describe the topic / content of the website
2. Not too long, 3 words or less
3. Not similar to the name of a popular website
4. Use the .com extension
5. Does not contain dashes (-)
6. Does not contain numbers, unless your brand contains numbers
7. Easy to remember, not difficult to pronounce / write

These are just tips, don't have to be followed.

In fact, many successful websites don't follow the domain name tips above.

After confirmation of payment is received, you should get an email from the hosting service that contains your account information.

Save the email.

WordPress Installation

There are 2 alternative ways to install WordPress.

First, the easier one is to use a tool called Softaculous which is usually already on your hosting.

Second, the manual method.

Let's discuss them one by one.

Installing WordPress with Softaculous

1. Open domainname.com/cpanel

Enter your CPanel address. Then enter the username and password provided when buying hosting.

Here are all the magic tools for managing your hosting.

CPanel appearance on your hosting may be different from the one in the video above, but the way it will not differ much.

2. Look for an application called Softaculous

Softaculous is an application to install various website platforms, one of which is WordPress.

With Softaculous, we can install WordPress in 2x clicks.

After finding Softaculous, search for WordPress then click Install.

If you don't have it, you can also use Fantastico. If there isn't any, follow the installation guide via FTP below.

3. Fill in the information requested by Softaculous

After everything is complete, click Install.

Done! Now your WordPress is installed.

Installing WordPress via FTP on CPanel

If your CPanel does not have an application called Softaculous or Fantastico, then you have to install WordPress manually.

Although a little more complicated, but even beginners can certainly.

1. Download WordPress

Please go to the official WordPress website, then download the latest version. You will get a file in .zip format

2. Upload and extract to hosting

Open your CPanel via: http://domainname.com/cpanel

Login with data provided by hosting.

Open the application called File Manager:

Enter the folder called public_html:

Enter the public_html folder

(File Manager display on your hosting might be a little different)

Upload the WordPress file in the .zip format that you just downloaded to this page. After the upload is complete, click the extract button from the menu:

Click Reload from the menu, then there will be a folder called wordpress:

Enter this folder, then click Select All from the menu.

Click 'Move' or 'Move file' on the menu, then delete / wordpress as shown below:

3. Creating users and databases

So that all functions on your WordPress can run smoothly, you must create a database.

Return to CPanel.

Open an application called MySQL Databases:

Create a new database and new user as shown below:

(use a mixture of numbers and letters to make it safer)

After that connect the two in the "Add User to Database" section:

Almost complete.

3. Complete the installation

Open your website address through a browser.

From here you will be delivered to do the final WordPress installation. Please follow as shown below:

If after submitting it turns out the message "Error establishing a database connection", means there is something wrong in the database name, username, and password.

After that, complete the information:

Your WordPress is ready to use.
